We’re running an exciting new competition for school students between the ages of 7-16 to design the “Sleigh of the Future” for Santa. It’s been a tricky year for the elves and after COP26 the workshop is looking for alternative modes of transport for Santa to improve the efficiency of his present delivery.
National Grid was contacted directly by the North Pole energy commission to ensure the new sleigh design is both time-efficient but also sustainable and economical.
The winning blueprint will be turned into a 3D animation so you can see how your sleigh design would work in real life, as well as £100 in Amazon vouchers , orUS$ equivalent if you're in the USA, to help towards Christmas presents.
The competition is open to anyone between the ages of 7-16, as well as any children known to National Grid employees or contractors – children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, neighbours’ children etc. (with the permission of their parents or legal carers).
The competition is now open for entries and the closing date for these is 23:30 (GMT-UK/ ET-US) on Sunday 19 December 2021. We aim to inform all winners by 20 th December 2021.
To enter the competition, please:
How will we select the winners?
We will shortlist the entries that we think best illustrate a futuristic and creative outlook on how Santa could travel the world in the future, then pass these to a panel of judges to agree on the winner. The winner will be judged on creativity, design skill and use of energy-efficient modes of power.
How do we explain the competition to our kids?
In its simplest form, we’re asking for a new vehicle to be designed for Santa, using renewable forms of energy. We’re looking for creativity and interesting use of energy, our website is a great place to find out more about any of the methods we use to generate energy. The more detailed the drawing, the better!
When and how will the prize be delivered?
We will communicate with you directly via the social media channel used to submit your entry. From here will we collect a few more bits of information that we may need for the delivery of the prize, including but not limited to your email address. The voucher will be delivered before Christmas; however, the 3D render of the winning entry may be delivered later.
We want you to be as creative as you like, so it’s up to you how you design the sleigh, but here are some tips!
GOOD LUCK – we can’t wait to see what you create!
